| | | | 2012 Swim Team Coaching Changes New Head Coach: Lauryn Marinho We are excited to announce that LTST will be under the coaching leadership of Lauryn Marinho. Lauryn comes to LT from Pleasant Hill Aquatics (PHAST), where she was part of the coaching staff since 1999. She was the Assistant Coach, guiding the team in proper stroke technique and continued improvement for each swimmer. Lauryn is also a valuable member of the Lafayette community; she teaches third grade at Lafayette Elementary School. She has a Masters Degree in Education from University of the Pacific, and is passionate about education and recreational sports. Assistant Head Coach: Tessa Arsenault Following our longstanding LT tradition of promoting strong swimmers and coaches, Tessa Arsenault returns this summer to become the Assistant Head Coach, partnering with Lauryn to develop Las Trampas' swim program. Tessa's successful swimming career at Acalanes High School, combined with her experience coaching LT will prove to be a potent combination on the pool deck. We are excited to support Tessa's ongoing competitive focus and proven leadership. Assistant Coaches: As Lauryn builds the LT program and further develops Las Trampas Swimming, she will need to fill out the LTST Coaching Staff. Las Trampas is eager to continue promoting qualified team members with the hope that they will be committed to the renewed goals of improvement for each and every swimmer on the team. The exact number of Assistant Coaches is to be determined. Junior Assistant Coaches: There will be select opportunities for Jr. Assistant Coaches as well. Jr. Assistant coaches do not need previous coaching experience. This program is designed to develop the next generation of LT coaching staff while assisting the coaching staff with team duties. In-the-Water-Helpers: LT swimmers ages 14 and up may apply to work as In-the-Water-Helpers during pre-season. This is a great way to get experience for those swimmers interested in coaching. We encourage all of those interested in becoming Assistant Coaches, Junior Assistant Coaches, and Pre-Season In-the-Water-Helpers to apply for the available positions. The deadline for applications is December 23, 2012. Interviews will be conducted on Friday, December 30. TO APPLY: Download the Employment Application: Employment Application and email it to: Kevin Strohmeyer strohkevin@gmail.com Message from Head Coach Lauryn Marinho I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of the mighty Las Trampas Seahorse Swim Team! I truly believe that a summer spent on a recreational swim team is the most fun, affirmative, educational way to spend the days of summer as a swimmer and as a family. The atmosphere, memories, and what is learned at the Las Trampas pool is unequaled and I can't wait to get started and contribute to this team's achievements. Our overarching targets as a team this year will be improvement and success. I am a firm advocate of fun coming first as a priority, and accordingly, I strongly believe that one gains the most enjoyment and satisfaction when they sense that they are a success at what they are doing. Success is fun. It will be my endeavor this summer season for each and every individual swimmer to experience accomplishment no matter where they are measured or compared competitively. We will do this most visibly through learning about, practicing, and mastering proper stroke technique and skills. It is obvious that a swimmer feels good when they dive into the water with the tightest quality streamline out of the heat, beat their individual time in a race, and recognize that a better technique in a stroke has led them to reach their personal goals. Underneath all of this, attendance is key. In order to achieve these lofty goals, swimmers will be expected to show their Las Trampas spirit by being present and showing quality effort. Practice makes progress. These are the means to success at the Las Trampas pool and everywhere in life. Through my experience and knowledge of what works in recreational, USS, and collegiate swimming, and our already wonderful LT coaching staff, swimmers, and families, it is of no doubt that this will be a remarkable season to remember. The Las Trampas pool will be a classroom this summer in which its swimmers will learn proficiency, the art of performance, and about themselves, as well as what they are capable of achieving when they give their entire effort. So, thank you for welcoming me to your amazing swim team family. Swimmers, get ready to work hard and have fun. And most importantly, Go Seahorses! -Coach Lauryn
2012 Swim Team Board In September, the Las Trampas Pool Board ("LTPB") voted to create a Swim Team Board ("STB"). The STB reports to the LTPB and is responsible for the governance of the swim team. While the overlap between and the pool and team board is high, the LTPB believes that the STB will provide a continual level of focus, guidance and consistency for the swim team. The STB is advisory; the swim team will continue to be operated by the Directors and the many parents who hold volunteer positions. The 2012 STB is: Swim Team Directors: Kevin and Jen Strohmeyer Finance: Alan and Yvonne Koenigsburg Meet Scheduling: Randall Husch League Rep.: Steve McDonald Pool Board Rep.: George Alessandria Secretary: Mary Eisner 2012 Swim Team Calendar
2012's swim team calendar is falling into place; please mark your calendars with the important dates for the 2012 schedule: Saturday, July 28, 2012: DCSL Championship Meet August 11, 2012: Contra Costa County Meet As you already know, LT is not part of the newly formed Lafayette City League; therefore, there is NO City Meet this year. Instead, LT's "big" meet is our DCSL Championship Meet, and our competitive focus will be directed towards that meet. Please make every effort to attend the one-day DCSL Championship meet July 28, 2012 while making your plans for the Summer of 2012. STAR JOBS!!!
