About Us

Introduction

Las Trampas Swim Team (“LTST”) is a family-oriented, parent-supported, non-profit member of the Diablo Community Swim League.  We compete against other teams in dual, invitational, city and county meets.  We are committed to providing an opportunity for each swimmer, regardless of ability, to do his or her personal best.

Swimmers join the team for various reasons: for healthy exercise, to learn and improve technique at their own pace, to participate in social activities throughout the summer with old and new friends, to be competitive if they wish, to compete with themselves for personal best times, to develop a concept of “team spirit,” to learn to set and meet goals and for some, to qualify for County.

Emphasis will be on stroke technique development, developing confidence in all strokes and consistently improving best times.

Mudskippers

Las Trampas Mudskippers are swimmers who are: usually between 4 and 6 years old, not afraid of the water; must be comfortable with putting their face in the water; know how to blow bubbles in the water; be comfortable in a group setting; be comfortable being away from their parent during the practice; be able to listen and conduct themselves properly; and able to ‘dog paddle’ a few feet away from the wall.   The coaches stress that this is NOT swim lessons, Mudskippers are part of our SWIM TEAM.   The goal is to swim in a meet toward the end of the season.  Mudskippers begin practicing after the school year has ended (mid June).

If a coach doesn’t feel your swimmer should be in this program, we suggest your younger swimmer try our recommended Las Trampas Pool’s swim lesson program until the swimmer is ready for Mudskippers.

Practices

Daily swim practice is important for swimmers to learn stroke technique and build stamina, as well as build a rapport with fellow teammates and coaches.  Practices are scheduled by age group.  Swimmers are expected to make all practices if at all possible.  It is up to each swimmer to check in with the coach when they arrive.   Pre-season practices begins when the pool opens (beginning of May)  and are scheduled after school.  Regular season practices, with longer hours, begin when school is dismissed for the summer (mid-June) and are scheduled in the mornings .  See Practice schedule for times.
